The European Youth Press (EYP) is expanding its network and is currently seeking new Observer Member Organisations. If your organisation works with young journalists or media makers and is interested in joining a vibrant community of youth-led media initiatives across Europe, this is the perfect opportunity.
As an umbrella organisation representing young journalists and media makers, EYP provides a collaborative environment where Member Organisations can engage in a variety of activities aimed at promoting media education, press freedom, and professional development for young people.
What European Youth Press Offers
EYP supports its Member Organisations by:
- Organising Seminars and Conferences: Access events specifically tailored for young journalists and media makers, offering a platform for education, networking, and collaboration.
- Information Exchange: Participate in cross-organisational information sharing through EYP’s diverse media platforms.
- Resources: Gain access to service and working documents produced to help Member Organisations grow and thrive.
- Cooperation and Representation: Foster cooperation between Member Organisations and partners, including European institutions, while benefiting from EYP’s advocacy work.
- Project Support: EYP aids Member Organisations in their efforts by providing information and concrete projects that enhance their impact.
Criteria for Observer Member Organisations
To become an Observer Member Organisation, your organisation should meet the following criteria:
- Youth Media Organisation: Your organisation should be officially registered and have a mission focused on supporting young media makers. Observer Members are expected to aim toward full membership within one year.
- Potential for Full Membership: Organisations should work toward fulfilling the criteria for full membership, which may lead to a vote by the General Assembly after one year. In some cases, organisations can remain in observer status indefinitely if they do not meet full membership criteria.
Criteria for Full Member Organisations
Observer Member Organisations may eventually apply for Full Membership after meeting the following criteria:
- National Associations: Your organisation must be a national association of young media makers based in Europe. Objectives should include promoting media education, supporting young media professionals, and advocating for press freedom in line with human rights.
- Transnational or European Media Organisations: Your organisation should work across national borders, with similar objectives of promoting media education, supporting young media makers, and advocating for press freedom. The organisation must have been officially registered for at least one year and operate in a non-partisan manner.
- Observer Status: Your organisation must have held observer status with EYP for at least one year before applying for full membership.
Important Considerations
- Age Limit: Representatives of Observer Member Organisations should not exceed 30 years and 8 months at the time of the General Assembly unless no other candidate from the organisation fits this requirement.
- Participation Rights: Observer Member Organisations have the right to speak and propose motions during EYP’s General Assembly, but they do not have voting rights. After one year of observer status, they can apply for full membership, which includes voting privileges.
- Advisory Board Review: All applications will be reviewed by EYP’s Advisory Board, which will propose a non-binding recommendation to the General Assembly participants. The General Assembly will vote on all membership applications.
- No Application Fee: There is no charge to apply for Observer Member status.
